Project Program: All 5 buildings within the district are currently under construction. Construction began in May of 2009, is more than half way completed and is scheduled for completion in September of 2010. Construction costs are tracking well within the referendum amount in part due to the favorable bidding climate during the 2008 spring, but nonetheless costs continue to be monitored closely to ensure the project remains within the NYSED aid ceilings.

All members of the Project Team – Architect, Construction Manager, Contractors and the district have declared this project to be the most schedule aggressive project we have all done. $36 million within 15 months, especially considering the invasive nature of the work scope in each of the district’s buildings. Thanks to a concerted and collaborative effort of the entire Project Team, the work is tracking on or ahead of schedule to be completed by September 2010 as planned.

At the Middle School/High School, the new synthetic turf athletics facility opened in late September and has had almost non-stop use. The new Middle School Entrance Addition is nearly completed. The geothermal well system installed adjacent to the turf field is complete and ready to deliver tempered glycol to the 150 new heat pumps in the building as they are commissioned and brought on-line this spring and summer. Most spaces in the building call to be modernized due to the new HVAC system and administrative office reconfigurations – alterations began in earnest during the 2009 summer and have continued throughout the school year thanks to some innovative coordination of the work around school operations.

Many existing ceilings were removed the first summer and only partially replaced so that instruction could resume in the fall but key portions of the ceilings have been left out so the new HVAC system can be installed after each school day on second shift. This creative sequencing will enable the work to complete by September 2010 instead of extending through the 2011 summer. Some additional creative phasing and tremendous cooperation by the school administration has allowed some of the administrative office re-configurations to be completed this winter and spring, helping reduce the amount of construction planned for this coming summer.

At the Intermediate School, the 4 classroom addition was completed in December and the Gym Addition is scheduled for completion this summer. Most of the building calls for renovations due to the new HVAC system and administrative office re-configurations similar to the MS/HS. The renovations are well under way since last summer and will complete this summer.

At all 3 wings of the Primary School, the HVAC system also calls for in-kind replacement similar to the other buildings, as well as some other various alterations. Those renovations began last summer, have continued during the school year and will complete this summer also. Several acres of natural grass playfields – baseball, soccer & field hockey - behind the building are undergoing extensive expansion with modernization grading and drainage, and will be seeded and begin turf re-establishment late this spring.

Steel has been erected at the bus wash addition at the Bus Garage. The addition, related site work drainage and retaining wall, and various minor alterations will complete this summer.
